Spending time with myself made me aware of my own emotions and thoughts, and how to keep them under control. By understanding myself, loving myself and putting me first, I became blind and deaf to what others had to say or feel about me, making products has been my therapy. People are targeted for being black! Dark skin vs light skin, skinny vs fat, ugly vs pretty. But social media, the world of politics doesn’t define who we are! If you stand firm in our skin, in your mind and in your heart  you/ me cannot be defeated. “You are MADE STRONGER than you seem and BRAVER than you believe.

Over the last year loving me and my skin teaching my kids to love the skin there in has been top priority so denoting a skin-care product that is specially formulated to not block pores in the face I dug deeper and researched what was needed for the face and the body. Understood the difference between Comedogenic and Non comedogenic ratings, here it is in a nutshell:

Comedogenic and Non Comedogenic rating

Contrarily, cocoa butter is emollient-rich and works well on very dry skin. However, it is rated fairly high on the comedogenic scale and can clog pores. So it is best to be used on the body (neck down) to avoid clogging of pores.

Those who deal with drier skin types should choose oils somewhere around the middle of the scale to high end of the scale for the Body, as they provide emollient-rich hydration. Anyone who is susceptible to acne breakouts and black heads should avoid highly comedogenic oils around the face as they are likely to cause reoccurring acne problems. My family deals with acne problems so when I came up with the turmeric scrub it was heaven sent.

The scale uses a numbering system from 0 to 5, as such below:

  • 0 – no chance of clogging pores
  • 1 – very low chance of clogging pores
  • 2 – moderately low chance
  • 3 – moderate chance
  • 4 – fairly high chance
  • 5 – high chance of clogging

When creating our products, I made sure to designate what and where our products and and should be used. Below you will find different butters and oils that are used in our products and if they are Comedogenic and non-comedogenic.

Shea butter is also non-comedogenic and is rated 0-1 on the comedogenic scale which is good for all over body especially the face. It absorbs deeply into the skin, providing essential moisture without clogging the pores. This makes it an ideal choice for those with acne – or blemish-prone skin (like myself and my kids) or for those who just want effective hydration that doesn’t leave the skin feely greasy.

Mango butter is mango that is pressed from the seed or pit of the fruit. It contains higher levels of essential fatty acids and is rich in vitamins A and C. Mango butter is rated low on the comedogenic scale (ranked 1-2), making it a great choice for oily skin. It will/ should not clog pores, allowing the skin to breathe with the natural ability to heal itself. It also helps lighten, tighten and brighten the skin, to reduce the appearance of dark spots, sun damage and stretch marks.

Coconut oil is high on comedogenic scale, which means it can clog pores. When using this oil in our products, (only for) the body butters and Sugar body Scrub in small amounts it helps reduce inflammation and keeps the skin moisturized to protect the skin from harmful bacteria. The small amounts used in our Body Butter and Body Scrub should not clog pores.

It traps it in your skin to make a stronger, healthy appearance and to maintain soft smooth skin keeping your skin firm.

Jojoba oil is noncomedogenic, it is plant hearty it is a nut with many healing properties which means that it should not clog the pores.
